What is Accelerated TMS?
Accelerated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an advanced, non-invasive treatment for mental health conditions, including treatment-resistant depression.
Unlike regular TMS, which typically involves 5 sessions per week for approximately 7 weeks, accelerated TMS delivers 5 sessions per day within a timeframe of two weeks.
What does an Accelerated TMS treatment look like?
During an Accelerated TMS treatment, the patient sits comfortably while the TMS coil is positioned on their head. As the machine operates and sends pulses to the brain, patients can watch TV, listen to music, or chat with our staff. They are also welcome to have a friend or family member present in the room if they feel more at ease with company.
Accelerated TMS involves 5 sessions a day, with each session lasting 19-30 minutes followed by a 30-minute break.
After their treatment sessions, patients are able to immediately resume normal activities such as driving. Some might experience mild fatigue or a slight headache, which can be alleviated with rest and over-the-counter pain relievers.
